Staff at west Norfolk care home ordered to leave Britain
About half the staff at a west Norfolk care home have been ordered to leave Britain, after the licence allowing them to legally work here was withdrawn.
Nine people from the Philippines, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka have been given 60 days to leave the country.
Some of them have worked at the care home in Docking legally for years.
The Home Office has revoked the Docking House’s sponsor licence which gave permission for the workers to be here.
The care home in Station Road is one of five in west Norfolk run by Armscare Ltd, whose managing director Raj Sehgal said: “We have made this public because we want people to fight for us.
“We have about 20 staff at Docking plus the manager, and nine of them have been sent letters giving them 60 days to leave Britain. We have about 40 residents at the home, who are elderly and vulnerable, and nobody has thought about how this will affect them.
“We have an ongoing recruitment drive, but it’s very hard to get new staff in places such as Docking, which are very isolated and hard to get to. It’s especially hard coming up to the Christmas and New Year period.
“We have to sponsor immigrants from outside the EU to work in this country and our homes are inspected yearly by the Home Office. This year, it has revoked the licence.”
A Home Office spokesman said: “Businesses that benefit from the immigration system must ensure they have robust compliance systems in place or risk losing their privilege to sponsor international workers.
“We continually monitor all sponsors on the register and we will take action where we believe there is evidence that a sponsor is not fulfilling all of its duties.”

We will very shortly be welcoming Terenia Skevington (Trina) to the ARMSCARE Managment team. After almost a year of Clare managing the Terrington Lodge, Trina will take over as Manager. This new posting will not only strengthen the ARMSCARE Management team but will allow each Manager to focus solely on their Homes.
This is to confirm that Bibin Baby Pathuppilly, will over the next few months be training to become Nigel Playford’s right hand man.
Bibin joined us after his Master’s degree and was engaged in assisting Nigel in HR, training and staff development matters. He will now be expanding this role and be training to encorporate other management responsibilities whist acting as Nigel’s Assistant Manager.
I am sure that you will all join me in congratulating Bibin and give him your fullest support whilst he is training.
Today Mr Henry Bellingham, MP for North West Norfolk took the time and trouble to have afternoon tea with the residents, relatives and staff of ARMSCARE at Summerville House.
Apart from getting to know some of the residents and staff, we briefly discussed our plans for the new 35 bed room wing, our recent pledge to join the www.fpcfpc.uk campaign.
It was a pleasant afternoon and a rare treat for the residents to meet their local MP.
Anthony Paulson of Docking House celebrates his last few hours of a bachelors’ life before he flies home to get married to his beautiful fiancée. Many congratulations to Anthony on his impending marriage from all his friends and family at Docking House.
ARMSCARE staff from all 5 Homes took over Marco Pierre White’s Lifeboat Inn, in Thornham for the night, for a drinks reception, 3 course meal, followed by an evening of dance and an open bar!
72 Staff from Docking House, Summerville House, Norfolk Lodge, Laburnum Lodge and also Terrington Lodge all joined to celebrate a great year with ARMSCARE.
In our effort to develop and promote staff from within the organisation I am pleased to announce the appointment of Katie Vanputten as Manager of Laburnum Lodge.
Katie has been at Laburnum Lodge for the past 2 years, initially as a Senior Carer and over the past year has been the Assistant Manager. Throughout her time, Katie has worked hard to maintain the ARMSCARE ethos, in terms of our staff, our systems and the way we work, which has helped her to help maintain high care standards amongst the staff.
In recognition of her determination, drive and passion, Katie has now been appointed Manager of Laburnum to help maintain the home’s standards. I am sure she will provide all the staff the support they need to drive the home forward.
I am sure that you will all join me in wishing her well in her new role and will give her the support and encouragement she so deserves.
