Summerville House is beautifully located in Heacham and offers a peaceful and tranquil setting, giving our residents the opportunity to live life to the full. Heacham is the perfect retirement destination. Heacham’s award winning beaches and stunning sunsets alone are worth staying at Summerville House. The sunsets on the beach are what picture postcards are made up of with the reflection of the sun providing a golden and silver road across the water. This is aided by the tides of the sea which when low makes the reflection change to deep indigo, crimson and deep silver blue which also lasts for hours.
The Village of Heacham has existed since before Roman Times and historically means “The Home in the Thicket” and whilst it has evolved in recent times it still retains the quaint feeling of seaside towns from yesteryear.
Summerville House is ideally located and residents have the opportunity to visit:
- Norfolk Lavender – Hunstanton
- Sandringham House – The Queens Residence
- Sea-Life Aquarium – Hunstanton is Norfolk’s leading Marine Rescue Centre
- Holkham Hall
- Corn Exchange (King’s Lynn) and Princess Theatre (Hunstanton)
Shelly who is the activity co-ordinator arranges the above trips and also offers activities within the homes. This can be from pampering sessions through to musical events.
Other services include:
- Hair dressing in-house or in the community
- Chiropodist in-house or in the community
- Optician in-house or in the community

Armscare seems like a Good Company.
I found the care for the residents excellent,Most of the carers were very attentive and caring. The building itself is not ideal and could do with replacing. The sitting room/lounge is very dull even with lights on
A Lovely Recommendation..
My mother Yvonne K has now been living at SUMMERVILLE HOUSE for just over a year. She has settled in and the care receieved has always been exemplary. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Staff at Summerville House are doing a really fantastic job looking after my Grandmother.
Staff at Summerville House are doing a really fantastic job looking after my Grandmother.
I couldn't be more pleased with the care and support my mother is receiving at Summerville House. Sincere thanks, Maryjane
This home takes very good care of my Grandma and we are very happy with the care that is provided for her. Thank you!
On 16th April I joined my sisters and our mother who is a resident at Sumerville House for a party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The staff had worked so hard decorating the lounge with bunting and balloons and providing a party table of food fit for a queen, with a celebration cake.
Entertainment was provided by the Banjo man and there was dancing and singing.
The residents and their family members who did attend had a wonderful time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who also joined in with the dancing. Cups of tea and a wonderful array of sandwiches sausage rolls and cakes were handed around and there was a lovely party atmosphere. The smiling faces of the residents said it all, along with the flag waving clapping and singing.
Well done and thank you Nigel, Bibbin, Shelley and all your caring staff for a most memorable afternoon.
Big Thank you to Nigel and his team
Couldn't let the day pass without saying a big THANKYOU to you, your wife and all the staff for making today's BBQ event such a brilliant success. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the sun shone for us and the food just kept coming....... So much time and effort must have gone into preparation before we arrived and then when it is all over there is the clearing away and the usual bedtime routine for those in your care. THANKYOU.
Summerville House BBQ

Well done and thank you to all those involved
Queens 90th birthday party
My husband has recently become a resident at Summerville care home. On the 17th April there was a party to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday. I was truly amazed at the trouble the staff went to to make it a very special day. The entertainment was tops, the banjo man a gave a great performance and everyone who could was encouraged to get up and dance, it was a joy to see the happiness on their faces. What can i say to express how good it was for the residents at Summerville. I must say that the buffet food was excellent and the birthday cake was very special. The staff and helpers did a really wonderful job, congratulations to everyone involved.
Hi To ALL at Docking House
as you know mum is not well and i would like to thank ALL the staff for the care and attention they have given to her and for looking after me when i am there its like one BIG HAPPY FAMILY again thanks
Norma Hissitt ( Barbara Hague )
PS thank you Harry for being so thoughtful
Sister Phyllis became very ill a few years ago and her fellow sisters at the priory were unable to take care of her. All her family are in South Africa and Australia and Phyl went to stay at Docking House. Naturally she missed her home country and people but was too frail and infirm to leave the UK where she'd lived for more than 30 years.
The management and staff of Docking House were her surrogate family in our absence, and for that we thank you at this sad time. Sister Phyllis passed away a year ago in a safe and warm place with the folk who have cared for her so well.
Thank you all with fond regards from South Africa.
My dear Dad, John, spent the last 3 months of his life at Docking House in Docking, diagnosed with early stage Vascular Dementia he was towards the end, confined entirely to his bed and unable to do anything for himself as his muscles refused to work for him.
I cannot thank the staff at Docking House enough for all they did for him and for my Mum who visited daily. The 25 men and women who worked there all played some role at some time in caring for my dad. They always had a smile on their faces, a kind word and treated my dad with such respect, care and love during his stay.
Many a time when myself or family called by to see Dad, there was someone with him, feeding him, holding his hand, patting his arm, shaving him. Always so gentle and loving towards him.
Toward the end, Dad needed to be turned in bed every 2 hours, this was done with respect and care and I know my Dad felt the same love for them as they felt for him.
When he passed away peacefully, the staff on duty raced into his room to pay their respects, some of them over come with emotion even a day later when I came by to clear his room.
Their love and devotion was incredible and never once did I have any concerns for my Dad during his stay there.
On that last day, mum stayed through the night and was given food and drinks and checked in on regularly.
I would not hesitate to recommend Docking House to anyone looking for a home for their loved one in their time of need.
I would like to extend my most grateful thanks to all the staff there for being so very good at their jobs that you forgot they were working, so effortless and pleasurable did it seem, their care of my darling Daddy. Thank you all. Gail Gordon ( nee, Evans) xx
Terrington Lodge - Thank You Letter
In May last year my mother Pat Kerry joined you at Terrington Lodge.
No way did I want my mum in a "home"! I had no option in the decision to send her to you - social services intervened.
All of my preconceived ideas of a "home" were soon made invalid!
I was amazed at the friendliness, professionalism, and above all the volume of compassion and kindness my mother received from you all. You have no idea how the quality of life improved not only for my mum but for myself and my family.
Please accept mine and my family's heartfelt thanks - you are all wonderful people.
If you are in Castle Rising, pop in for a "cuppa" any time.
Kindest regards and best wishes to you all.
Chris Kerry and family.
P.S. All consider yourself hugged!!
My mother has been at Norfolk lodge for nearly three years, there has been a lot of improvements made lately the garden looks lovely and the home is getting a new upgrade. The care is more intensive and well done to Yvonne!
What a Lovely Home
I have asked the staff to put my feelings about Laburnum Lodge onto their website as I don't know how yo do it.
I would just like to say "This is a lovely home, never expected to feel at home like I do here. It's just like being at home! Everybody is so kind and helpful"
Lovely and homely
I came to stay on respite but I have now changed my mind.
"I think there is everything here I need, lovely people, a lovely bed to sleep on and lovely friendly staff."
"What more could you want".
Staff sat with me and put this on as I do not use computers but these are the very words of me Gladys Oakey
I was asked by the staff if I would like to leave a comment on the website. After they explained what the website was, I said yes please. I moved to Laburnum Lodge in August 2011 and have found the home warm and welcoming. There is a cook who does home made food and we get choices for every meal. Living at Laburnum Lodge all my needs are met and the staff are very pleasant
I am a resident and have asked a member of staff to put this onto the website for me. I moved into Laburnum Lodge in August of this year and all the staff have been really nice. The food is home cooked and there are a lot of choices. Friends and family have commented on much better I look.
I am very glad I moved into Laburnum Lodge
Just returned from the annual summer barbeque. Once again a success the families and residents all had a good time. The food was good and the entertainment too.
Well done and thank you to Nigel, Yvonne and Shelly, also to all the staff and spouses for making it a great annual event.
Summerville House is set in quiet surroundings and is a beatiful period property.
Our mother has lived in Summerville House coming up to 3 years. During that time we have found the staff and management to be responsive to not only our mothers needs but also the needs of the family. The home and gardens have been significantly improved during this period and now the residents can enjoy summer barbeques in the garden areas. The staff are welcoming and family members offered a drink when visiting. A family member visits our mother every day and the staff keep us informed of any incidents or concerns they may have. This is important to us as our mother is not English and sometimes struggles to communicate. We work together to resolve issues and this enables us to continue to be a big part of our mothers life. The home is clean and well maintained, the food is mostly homemade in particular lunch, with fresh meat and vegetables. All staff train on a regular basis and enhance their knowledge, skill level and understanding of not only the residents particular needs but Dementia in general. The management team are always willing to listen to our suggestions and where possible implement them. We are pleased to learn that a new appointment to the team is spanish speaking, this will further enhance our mothers care and we are very grateful for this.
I am a local resident and have two friends who I have known for years at Norfolk Lodge and visit regularly. They are both very happy and like staying at Norfolk Lodge. They are complimentary about the food and the staff. The home is always nice and clean and always smells fresh.
Staff have been so caring and very helpful
There's No Place Like Home...
